North Castle Street
|Project type:||Alterations & Extensions|
This project was the replacement extension and internal alterations to a prominent Georgian terraced town house on North Castle Street St Andrews, Fife.
The replacement extension is a new contemporary light-weight structure which maintains the previous massing but replaces the pitched roofs with an elegant curved zinc roof and a single storey eco-friendly sedum roof. The form echoes that of a wave or the hull of a ship that gives it direct connection to the sea which is less than 50 metres away.
The large windows have been angled to obtain a view of the sea on the first floor while capturing the sun and enlarging the patio area on the ground floor.
Internally many of the original Georgian features are retained and celebrated while an infusion of contemporary style has been added to the interior design.
