We have established a working relationship with many leading loss adjusters in assisting less fortunate clients in responding to their anguish of losses arising through incidents of fire or flood.
INSURANCE POLICY FEE PROTECTION
It can be very quickly established with a client’s insurance broker if their policy offers fee protection cover to enable the appointment of an independent building surveyor/architect to represent their interest. If so, we could engage with your broker in appraising the damage and negotiate with their broker and loss adjuster to ensure their position is best represented and protected. This is particularly important for older properties in ensuring Planning and Historic Scotland are satisfied in the appropriate methods of remediation.
BETTERMENT
Every cloud has a silver lining. On many occasions the client may not necessarily want a like for like reinstatement after fire or flood damage, but take the opportunity to carry out other improvements to their property. In such circumstances it is possible to negotiate a settlement sum with the loss adjuster, and use that money to alter and improve the property in a preferred method known as ‘betterment’. Here we can offer the added design input of our architectural team to best appraise and advise on the options in design betterment.
MUTUAL DAMAGE
Flat fires or burst pipes can involve some or many parties involving complex issues of shared responsibility and insurance cover. Here we have developed an expertise in advising all parties in their responsibilities towards the reinstatement of common and individual parts, and in turn best negotiating their position with the individual insurance brokers and loss adjusters.
