Three Projects Shortlisted for 2013 Awards

We are delighted to have three recent projects shortlisted as finalists for two Scottish Home Awards. http://www.kdmedia.co.uk/homeAwards/finalists2013.html

Two projects, McNeil House in Murrayfield and Saltcoats Farmhouse in Gullane are both amongst five shortlisted for the Architectural Excellence Award (Single Dwelling House).

Dublin Meuse has been shortlisted amongst three for the Architectural Excellence Award (Housing Development).

All of these projects feature on our website.

We look forward with optimism to the Scottish Home Awards dinner on Thursday 20th June in Glasgow.

Quiraing Sanctuary

This sanctuary was built as part of the larger Quiraing Lodge project on the Isle of Skye, and provides a quiet place for contemplation and reflection. It is constructed from local stone, and more turf will grow over the roof in the future, embedding it into its landscape.

We have recently completed several villa and townhouse projects within Edinburgh, including the extension and full refurbishment of an Edwardian Villa in Merchiston and a townhouse in Ann Street.

Works are close to completion in converting Jeffrey House from an Edinburgh Academy boarding house into an extraordinary family home with a contemporary extension.

MORAR HOUSE, HELENSBURGH

Planning consents are currently being supported for the conversion of this category A-listed arts&crafts mansion located adjacent to Charles Rennie Mackintosh’s iconic Hill House into thirteen flats by alteration and extension.

ST ANDREWS COURT, GULLANE

An A-listed derelict hotel that has been purchased by Playfair Properties Ltd for conversion into 14 flats with 2 self-contained villas to the rear. Works are due for completion in July, with the villas following in September.

WOODHALL HOUSE

An extraordinary A-listed 16th Century mansion house located in Colinton, Edinburgh. We have successfully steered this through a contentious planning process with approval for a full refurbishment and contemporary elevated garden room extension to the rear.

The first phase in the external restoration of this property has now been completed.

Works are due to start on the major internal restoration, refurbishment and extension soon.

Farmhouse, Gullane

We have seen and admired Lorn’s work in various properties over many years. We were therefore delighted when he accepted a project to turn an 18 century, run down farmhouse into a home providing the best that modern life can offer without impacting a wonderful old stone built property’s essential character.

To say that we are pleased with the outcome is understating our huge satisfaction with a project that has delivered all that we wanted. The project was managed with the minimum of fuss and the maximum level of communication and involvement. Lorn and his team always welcomed our input and have been extremely diligent in the monitoring of our experiences in the house post completion. Whilst in any project there are the inevitable frustrations and issues, in every instance Lorn and his team have been supportive and helped us find solutions.

It has been a real pleasure working with Lorn and his excellent team and if I ever do this again Lorn would be my first call.

April 2012 Project Update

TOWNHOUSES

We have recently finished work on several townhouse refurbishments and extensions in Saxe Coburg Place, Ann Street and Ainslie Place, with others in progress in India Street, Regent Terrace, Doune Terrace and Ann Street.

DETACHED VILLAS

In addition we have just completed two major villa refurbishments in Murrayfield and Gullane, each with garden room extensions. We have others on site in Merchiston, Inverleith and the Grange, as well as a country farmhouse near Strathblane.

The house in Inverleith forms part of the former Edinbugh Academy boarding houses and will include a copper clad extension to replace the 1960′s annex.

NEW BUILD HOUSES

We are close to completing a 4000ftsq new home in Murrayfield which is due for completion later in the year. The house is of a contemporary design style and will incorporate renewable technologies.

In addition we have four new houses on the drawing board; two new homes in Gullane, one nearby at the Renaissance golf course and a farmhouse near Dunbar.

ST ANDREWS COURT, GULLANE

This major project is the refurbishment, conversion and extension of a listed 17th century hotel into sixteen apartments, which is on track for completion this year.
